Fls small, regular, perfect, axillary; sepals and petals 2–5; stamens = or twice number of petals. Ovary superior, 2–5-celled, with axile placentae; styles 2–5, ovules ∞.Capsule septicidal; seeds minute, lacking endosperm. Herbs or small subshrubs with opp. or whorled lvs; stipules paired.
