  • a perennial rush forming very dense coarse tufts with thick and spreading roots.
  • its stems are stout and stiffly erect and the leaves many and at the base.
  • its inflorescence is up to 12 cm long with unequal branches.
  • its capsules are about 5 mm long, yellow-brown or dark brown, and with pointed apices.
