 Recognition
  • a much branched, bushy, evergreen shrub up to 4 m high.
  • its leaves are opposite or in whorls, elongate, leathery, up to 25 cm long.
  • its inflorescence is a terminal branched cyme.
  • its flowers are shining red in bud, and when open are 3.5-5 cm long, pink or rose.
  • its fruit are about 18 cm long, but are uncommon.
