  • a robust perennial sedge up to 4.2 m high and with a hard woody rhizome.
  • its leaves forming a sheath about 30 cm long and becoming loose and papery.
  • its inflorescence is dense and branched with rusty brown spikelets.
  • its nut is about 2.9 mm long and cream to grey.
