 Description

Unarmed, perennial herbs, ± erect. Lvs petiolate, opposite or alternate, simple, rather large, entire. Fls solitary, axillary. Calyx 5-toothed, campanulate, accrescent, sometimes almost leaflike. Corolla tubular-campanulate, purplish, with short 5-lobed limb. Stamens 5, included or slightly exserted, subequal; filaments adnate to base of corolla, = or slightly < corolla, hairy at base. Stigma peltate. Fr. a berry, globose or subglobose. Seeds numerous, small.
