Scientific Name:
Calliergonella Loeske, Hedwigia 50: 248 (1911)
Etymology:
The generic name is a diminutive of Calliergon.
 Taxonomy

Calliergonella is considered here to be monotypic, and therefore no separate generic description is provided. Hedenäs (1992, 2003) has argued for a broader generic concept which incorporates the widespread northern hemisphere Calliergonella lindbergii (Mitt.) Hedenäs (Hypnum lindbergii Mitt.), but his interpretation is not followed here. Karczmarz (1971) treated Calliergonella as a section within Calliergon, but this is likewise not accepted here.
