Recognition
- an erect shrub, usually 2–3 m high, with rigid stems.
- its leaves are long and narrow (5–7 cm long, 3–4 mm wide), thick, rigid, and the lower surface dotted with glands.
- its flowers are in spikes up to 7–10 cm long and 40–60 mm wide,
- the flower has conspicuous red filaments c. 20–25 mm long.
- its capsules are up to 7 mm wide and contain numerous small seeds.
