 Description

Ericoid shrubs. Lvs usually opposite, glandular, aromatic. Fls few to many in terminal clusters or in the axils of upper lvs, sessile or pedicellate; bracteoles usually quickly caducous. Hypanthium campanulate or turbinate, produced beyond receptacle; calyx lobes 5, ciliate or glabrous. Petals 5, ± orbicular, > calyx. Stamens 10, opposite to and < petals, alternating with 10 staminodes, all in 1 series; filaments ± dilated below and connate at base; anthers dehiscing by longitudinal slits. Ovary 1-locular; ovules 6–10. Style with or without a ring of hairs underneath stigma. Fr. dry, indehiscent. Seeds few.
