Synonymy:
Type: Hector Mountains Otago east of Lake Wakatipu, 6000 feet (~1800 m ASL), Feb. 1890, D. Petrie s.n. (holo: WELT SP004736!†).
Etymology:
The Latin words glaber(hairless, smooth) and -escens (becoming, resembling) refer to the leaf trichomes being ‘early deciduous’ and ‘soon falling so that most of plant is glab[rous]’ (Moore 1961, p. 812).
 Description

Compact rounded cushion to 5 cm tall; rootlets at some nodes. Lvs imbricate to patent, very broadly spathulate; hairs short, stiff, ± appressed on both surfaces of young lvs, caducous. Fl. solitary, terminal. Calyx hairs sparse, appressed. Corolla white, c. 5 mm diam.; tube ± cylindric; filaments short; anthers small, greater part above scale.
