Type: New Zealand, South Island, Amuri, Hanmer Plains, March 1912, C.E. Christensen (holotype: WELT SP02098)
Etymology:
Petrie (1915) named this species after Charles E. Christensen (1876–1938) who was the first person to collect this species during his botanical exploration of the vegetation of Hanmer Plain, Amuri District, North Canterbury, New Zealand (Godley, 1994).
