Type. NEW ZEALAND. Marlborough Land District, Yeo Stream, upper Awatere, Molesworth, 900 m, common on rocky bluffs near stream, quite common on bluffs in lower Yeo Stream, 13 March 2008, P. B. Heenan s.n. (holotype: CHR 595607).
Etymology:
The specific epithet hesperia (western) refers to the distribution being the western-most of the four species of Pachystegia.
